Useful Tips To Update Your Central Heating Boiler.

  • Update Your Central Heating Boiler

The very first tip and most important of all is to make sure that the person or company
who will be updating your central heating boiler is Gas Safe Registered
Anybody who works in gas has to be Gas Safe registered by law.
Every Gas engineer carries a gas safe card with them, it’s a bit like a driving licence,
it will have all the details of what the engineer can work on.

Each card will have a photo of the engineer, this is located top left on the front of the card.

It will also have the engineers gas safe registration and personal licence number printed on the front.
Also on the front of the card will be the expiry date,
normally this is the 31st March of each year, sometimes the date maybe different,
this is normally when the installer has to resit their gas exams but it will alway be within the 12 month period .

If the engineer shows you a card out of date then, do not let them work on updating your central heating boiler, its illegal.

Now you have checked the front of the gas safe card, turn it over and read the back section.

Here will be listed all the appliances the engineer can work on and the type of gas.

As you are looking to update you central heating boiler, look for boilers on the card,
next the type of gas, normally you will see natural and LPG gas, make sure you check the right one.
Just because the engineer has boilers in the Natural gas column
it does not mean he can Work on or install LPG boilers.

If the gas safe card does not have boilers on it,

then the engineer is not qualified to work on boilers.

It’s very important for your own safety to check the card over and make sure the engineer is registered to work on your appliance.

You can also go online and check the Gas Safe Register

to make sure the engineer is all up to date and qualified for the work you want carried out.
Now you have the gas safe part out of the way you need to ask the engineer what they would recommend to update your central heating boiler.
Your local gas safe engineer will be able to tell you what’s best for your property and what is involved in carrying out the update.

Any form of central heating boiler update has to be carried out to

current gas and building regulations by law,

Just because you’re existing boiler has been in the same location for many years, your new one may
need to be fitted elsewhere to comply with the regulations, not all the time but sometimes.

Every new central heating boiler has to be registered,

this is normally done through Gas Safe or the boiler makers.
Once registered you will receive a certificate through the post,
stating the boiler has been installed to the current regulations.

You may even receive a letter through the post from Gas Safe

asking if you would like to have an inspector come along and double check
that your central heating boiler has been installed to current regulations.
Updating a central heating boiler these days is not just changing the boiler over,
it’s all about the environment and saving energy, so always seek advise from you gas engineer.
